Comparisons:

Some of the competitors of the Nikon D5500 in the entry-level DSLR segment include Canon EOS Rebel T6i/s, Pentax K-S2, Samsung NX 500 and Sony Alpha A6000. Nikon D5500 compares well with these cameras thanks to its high-end features such as 60 fps Full HD (30 fps in Pentax K-S2 and Canon T6i), excellent autofocus quality (39 AF points compared to 19 in Canon T6i and just 9 in Canon EOS Rebel SL1) and great low-light performance.

Some of the other entry-level DSLRs do offer superior features such as faster autofocus speeds and quality (Sony A6000), 4K video (Samsung NX 500) and weather-sealing (Pentax K-S2).

Recommendations:

Some notable alternatives to the Nikon D5500 camera in the DSLR segment include Sony A6000, Samsung NX 500 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7. Sony A6000 offers an incredible 179 points autofocus while the Samsung NX 500 offers 28.2 megapixel resolution with 4K video shooting support and 205 point autofocus. Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 also offers 4K video shooting support with capable continuous autofocus though with only a 16 MP image sensor.

Nikon D5500 is an excellent entry-level DSLR camera that offers a good balance of ease of use and high-end enthusiast-friendly features in a lightweight, compact and rugged package.
